A weblog of my musical endeavors, touring adventures, film/video collaborations, recording sessions, nerdy music gear, records I like, pictures I take, vegan cooking and baking, and cats.

This is the Cattle Decapitation video for their new album “Kingdom of Tyrants”.  It was directed and shot by Mitch Massie.  I am the character at the beginning getting the goo sucked out of my crotch.  I helped behind the scenes with some lighting and with the stage and costumes.  Most of that was done by Mitch Massie and Melissa Brugger though.  I am very happy with it and it is probably the best video that we’ve done yet.  Enjoy

I hung with all the guys from Cattle Decapitation in St. Louis last night.  They were  super cool guys.  All of the were very complimentary of our work for their music video.  Plus they killed it live and all gave us some free merch.  Good times indeed.ps.  I need to be better about updating this shit.  I’ve done a million cool things since last time I posted anything.  I just get so busy and forget to make time for doing this.  I need to get better at interwebing.

Spring cleaning time! I opened up this beast and cleaned out the whole thing. Dispite being somewhat a pain in the ass it paid off. It was pretty suprising how much better it sounded after getting out the dirt and dust and hosing it with Deoxit. The board is actually much more quiet and clearer sound. Next on the list is recalibrating the meterbridge and reorganizing cables and rack gear. Hope to get it all done in a weekend.

The Stationary Odyssey and Everybody split 7 inch is now out!  It features one track by each band.  One song by the Everybody entitled “Marooned” and a re-arrangement, by Stationary Odyssey, entitled “Demon Oar”.  Also the 7 inch is enclosed in super unique packaging, I guarantee you’ve never seen before for a 7 inch.  Here is a description of the project”
“Recently, Joey Santiago and David Lovering of the legendary group The Pixies collaborated with iconic producer and recording engineer Eddie Kramer on a side project they dubbed The Everybody. This unique collaboration is an eclectic instrumental rock project with unorthodox song structures, syncopated rhythms, and sonic experimentation that still manages to remain accessible and catchy. Upon the release of their album, Stationary Odyssey was asked to take one of the tracks and modify it by either re-arranging, remixing, or disassembling it. The result is “Demon Oar”, a song that takes inspiration from the original track “Marooned” as well as ambient soundscapes, movie scores, and traditional rock.”
Here is a little bit about the packaging:
“This clear/white vinyl 7” record contains the song “Marooned” by The Everybody and it’s modified counterpart “Demon Oar” by Stationary Odyssey. Driven by a desire to make this single unique, it is packaged in a limited edition, hand-crafted wooden case screen printed by Ryan Grisham of Mock Orange. On the inside, the record is protected by a layer of soft felt. The choice of materials and colors is inspired by the “lost at sea” feel of the song’s titles.”
This is gonna be a super limited run, once they run out they are out for good!  You can pick them up here.

Happy Thanksgiving from Uncle Gitmo

Happy Thanksgiving from Uncle Gitmo

I had the privilege of collaborating with Joey Santiago and David Lovering of The Pixies for a side project of theirs called The Everybody.   They also recorded with the legendary recording engineer/producer Eddie Kramer (The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, etc.) and got to collaborate with him as well. It will be released as a split 7 inch between them and Stationary Odyssey. If you could take 3 minutes out of your day and watch this video it would be much appreciated!

Castro’s Beard “Repose” out now!

Repose is the exciting debut album from the avant garde electro acoustic group Castro’s Beard! The album features a series of spontaneous compositions that tell a story of creeping onslaught, torture, death and transcendence. “Slow Motion Bloodshed” is densely layered with explosive, crashing percussion, haunting moans, thick distortion, tearing speakers, screeching feedback and industrial decay. “Ecstatic Pain” violently bursts into jagged cut up breakbeats, manipulated CPU and digital monophonic guitar glitches. Finally “Transcendence (Waiting To Die)” is a piece of hypnotic drones, eerie cries, somber, mysterious, howling guitar lines and soothing synth melodies. With performances that feature intensely telepathic interaction between the players and bold sonic exploration, the layers of mystery unfold upon each listen.

The lengendary Boss HM-2 is back in my hands again. Best heavy distortion pedal ever made. Does anything from death metal to shoegazer really well.
